MICHAEL J. SHEA, PhD, was one of the first certified Full Instructors of Craniosacral Therapy in 1986 by the Upledger Institute and a founding member of the International Affiliation of Biodynamic Trainings (IABT). He is adjunct faculty and teaches human embryology in the pre- and perinatal psychology doctoral programs at the Santa Barbara Graduate Institute. Dr. Shea has been a student of His Holiness the Dalai Lama since 1986, taking formal vows in Zurich, Switzerland, in 2005. He has also apprenticed with a Navajo medicine man on the Navajo reservation. Along with this in-depth study of shamanism, Dr. Shea brings a unique cross-cultural point of view in teaching health and healing. His clinical focus is on treating infants and children with neurological problems and developmental delays, and also includes teaching clinical skills to adults that carry pre- and perinatal trauma. "There is a great deal more to savor in this latest addition to
Shea's craniosacral series, which skillfully explores a number of
important themes, including the practitioner-client relationship,
the influence of practitioner somatic awareness, attunement, new
findings in neurobiology, nutritional insights, practical tips for
the application of craniosacral work, and further reflections about
embryological organizing forces. The book contains straightforward
illustrations and photos of numerous hand positions, outlines
cutting-edge principles, and provides a valuable resource for the
discerning practitioner. Once again, Michael Shea pushes the
envelope of craniosacral practice by offering fresh insights with
clarity, precision, and love."

Wisdom in the Body
"Michael Shea has once again written a text that will be of great
use to all manner of health professionals. His precision in
describing the theoretical underpinnings of this work-coupled with
his ability to make clinical application straightforward and
clear-bodes well for all of us who work for the well-being of the
whole person. Of particular import is his understanding of the
interrelatedness of body structures with behavior and with
interpersonal relationships. Not only does he weave together the
body and mind, but he also stitches together the individual and the
world in a seamless continuum."—Christine Caldwell, PhD, LPC,
BC-DMT, NCC, ACS, professor of Somatic Counseling Psychology at
Naropa University"In this fourth volume, Michael Shea continues to
weave deepening layers of science, wisdom, and skills with the
aesthetics of biodynamic craniosacral therapy. He gathers essences
from the masterful in developmental and interpersonal neuroscience,
infant mental health and attachment, prenatal and perinatal
psychology, biodynamic embryology, and holography to form a
tapestry of understanding that beautifully informs his approach. As
a master teacher, he provides not only a clear presentation of the
theory, but also wonderfullyspecific and clear guidance for the
practitioner to learn new skills, practice them, and provide that
support for their clients' integration and wholeness at the deepest
levels."—Wendy Anne McCarty, PhD, RN, author of Welcoming
Consciousness and founding chair and faculty, Prenatal and
Perinatal Psychology, Santa Barbara Graduate Institute"Michael's
contribution to biodynamics is huge. His books enter the
intricacies of the work and take the reader and practitioner to the
depths of inquiry into the nature of life, its unfolding, and its
dimensions.... This is a wonderful addition to his first three
volumes, and I highly recommend it."—Franklyn Sills, founder and
director of the Karuna Institute and author of Craniosacral
